2020 version of the famous Film Festival Cannes

Thierry Frémaux, the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival said it again: even if it does not take place on the Croisette because of coronavirus, and even if the famous show on the red carpet of Festival Palace will not take place this year, the 2020 edition of the Festival will take place "one way or another".

According to several sources, since cinema cannot escape the side effects of this virus that paralyses the planet, we could move towards a 2020 edition in conjunction with the festivals of Venice, Berlin or Toronto. It will be a virtual/online event (precise program to come) that will offer a free selection of old and recent films on YouTube, selected from 20 film festivals around the world, to benefit the research against Covid-19.

It should be remembered that the Cannes Film Market had already confirmed the organization of an alternative online event at the end of June 2020.

We Are One: A Global Film Festival

will take place from 29 May to 7 June online and will feature films, shorts, documentaries, music and virtual roundtables.

The selected content will be available on the Festival's channel:YouTube.com/WeAreOne, with the possibility of viewing the various films and documentaries and making a donation to associations: part of the proceeds from this historic festival in a new format will be donated to the World Health Organization and various charities, according to the organizers.

In Cannes, and we at Olam Properties are also looking forward to the Festival, an event that will only partially compensate the absence of the stars and juries on our famous Croisette and the excitement that Cannes and its guests are used to in May.

The 73rd edition of the Cannes International Film Festival and the parallel selections (Directors' Fortnight, International Critics' Week, Uncertain Regard...) should take place from May 12 to 23, 2020.
